Updated on August 04, 2017Admission to the University of Mount Union is not highly selective, and most hard-working students with grades and standardized test scores that are average or better will have a very good chance of being admitted. The admission process is holistic and includes a 300+ word essay and a letter of recommendation from your school counselor. As with most selective colleges, high grades in challenging college preparatory classes will be the most important part of your application.
Founded in 1846, the University of Mount Union is a liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Since it first opened its doors, the university has taken pride in providing equal access to education without consideration of race, color, or sex. The 123-acre campus (with another 162-acre Nature Center) is located in Alliance, Ohio, a small city of 25,000 people located roughly midway between Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Despite it's name as a "university," the school has a largely undergraduate focus and has the feel of a traditional liberal arts college. Students hail from 31 states and 13 countries, although the majority come from the region. Mount Union is a residential campus with active student life. The university has over 80 student organizations as well as an active Greek scene. The university is home to four sororities and four fraternities. Athletics are a big deal at Mount Union, and the school's Purple Raiders compete in the NCAA Division III Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Mount Union has had notable success in several sports including football and track & field. The school's love of athletics can be seen on the academic front as well, for exercise science and sport business are among the most popular majors.
